Although advanced for its age, it lacked certain capabilities like overclocking (more about that below), efficient pipeline and several other things. Nehalem was the successor to the initial Core architecture. Each gen processor was given a unique name and marketed accordingly.

Nehalem – 1st Generation Intel Processorsīefore we begin, know that Intel has a weird naming convention, which you’d anyways know in a while. Technically speaking, you won’t notice much difference between two successive generation chips from Intel. The micro-architecture being the main difference between processors of different generations. The concept of generations arose primarily after the Core i series.

Not to mention, when I asked them what difference the generations made, 90% stores said that “advanced gen chips are faster”. All stores that I visited pitched me Intel’s 10th gen processor, which they so righteously boasted was faster than the previous-gen chips. Just last week I went to a computer store to inquire what’s latest in the market and came back unsatisfied. Put simply, I am researching the computer market a lot these days, especially processors. I am in the market for laptops while also contemplating whether I should assemble a desktop instead.
